Remembrance ceremony kicks off June 2020 national Gun Control Victims Awareness Month

June 5, 2020 – ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Civil rights advocates placed a yellow wreath in front of the Monroe County Office Building Friday in honor of Matti and her husband, Brett, both Rochester residents who were viciously and senselessly beaten by far-left progressive looters on May 30, 2020. Video of the attack is below:

Yellow is the official color of national Gun Control Victims Awareness Month because it symbolizes the mind, intellect, and logic. These are faculties possessed by those who recognize, via empirical data, that gun control is an illogical, emotion-based security deception for grown adults that does nothing to reduce ‘gun violence.’ Supporters are asked to wear yellow throughout June 2020, which is national Gun Control Victims Awareness month. Matti and Brett were assaulted for doing nothing more than attempting to stop a looting that targeted the business below their apartment. Due to the unconstitutional and overly restrictive gun control policies imposed by Monroe County and New York State officials on law-abiding citizens, Matti and Brett were left with only a golf club for self-defense, when they truly needed a standard capacity pistol and AR pattern rifle to effectively repel the multiple attackers they faced.

Unfortunately, Matti and Brett paid for the unconstitutional disarmament edicts forced on them by government agents with the severe injuries they suffered at the hands of multiple attackers that used fists and a large wooden plank to mercilessly beat them both.

The blood that Matti and Brett spilled in Rochester, NY on May 30, 2020 is on the hands of the far-left autocrats in state and local government that support gun control statutes.

“Everything that we’ve seen throughout the course of this pandemic and this period of very extreme civil unrest that seems to be escalating should demonstrate very clearly to the state and nation that civilian disarmament of law-abiding citizens is a bad thing,” 2ANYS Founder Steve Felano said. “It is forced victimhood, as we saw during this beating May the 30th below the apartment here in Rochester. So, what are we calling on Monroe County, New York State and, frankly, the nation to do? It is abandon this failed gun control experiment that just creates more victims.”

“The issue you have with gun control and the laws being passed is the unintended consequences that they leave,” Erie County Libertarian Party Chair Duane Whitmer said. “For example, because of gun control, because of the shutdown, and because of Andrew Cuomo being granted executive powers during this shutdown, the people in question could not, once the uprising started, once these tensions got high, they couldn’t purchase a firearm to defend themselves.”

“Women have the capacity to attract more violent attacks than men, and usually by someone bigger and stronger than her,” Constitutional Coalition of New York State President Nancie Orticelli said. “If anyone recalls Savannah Lindquist, the Temple University student who was raped, she tried to use all the self-defense techniques she was taught. She even blew her rape whistle, and shockingly that didn’t save her. She strongly believed that if she had had her handgun that she left back home, she would have had at least a fighting chance and her gun would have served as her great equalizer.”

In an era of tyrannical statewide shutdowns and riotous looting supported by far-left New York politicians, uninformed progressive mobs mindlessly clamor for endless restrictions on the natural right to keep and bear arms. This is precisely why the lessons of the present and past centuries require a painstaking reexamination.

Government tyranny, almost always bolstered by onerous gun control imperial edicts, generated 169,202,000 human deaths in the 20th century alone. This terrible legacy has carried over into the 21st century. More than one million Uyghur Muslims are being held by the Chinese government in modern concentration camps and Hong Kong is on the verge of losing its civil liberties as a direct result of China’s 1996 Firearms-Control Law. Well beyond 250 unarmed civilians have been killed by their government over the last six years as a direct result of Venezuela’s Act on the Disarmament and Control of Arms and Ammunition of 2013.

Despite history’s repeated lessons that gun control violates the natural rights of all persons and inevitably results in millions of government-caused deaths, New York State continues to be a leader when it comes to exacerbating the damage caused by America’s failed gun control experiment. Throughout June 2020, civil rights advocates will remember the victims of this failed experiment, and once again call for an end to this emotion-driven infringement on our Second Amendment civil rights.
